[Sports] Chelsea fans’ preferred lineup against Brighton: Full strength, full speed ahead!

We live in weird times as Chelsea take on Brighton & Hove Albion in what was seen as a crucial game barely 24 hours ago. Now, it’s difficult to make out how important it really is, but Thomas Tuchel and his men will want to win either way. Whether or not Chelsea continue playing in the Premier League, Champions League, Any Other League, we can only take the things as they come

The WAGNH community opted to go with a full strength lineup. The formation picked itself with a whopping 88%, with no other receiving more than 5%. Kepa Arrizabalaga (7%) did well in the FA Cup, but Édouard Mendy nevertheless returns to the starting eleven.

Andreas Christensen is finally back and slots right in for a semi-fit Thiago Silva (3%). Kurt Zouma has done well when called upon, but not well enough to displace Antonio Rüdiger or César Azpilicueta. Both Ben Chilwell (46%) and Reece James (49%) get a rest as Marcos Alonso and Callum Hudson-Odoi return to the lineup by a narrow margin. Emerson (7%) remains the backup’s backup.

Mateo Kovačić is still out with injury so the recent dream pairing of Jorginho and N’Golo Kanté continue at the heart of the midfield. Though Billy Gilmour (35%) wasn’t an unpopular choice, ultimately it was not enough.

Chelsea’s win against Manchester City saw Hakim Ziyech (29%) put in his best performance yet, but he nevertheless misses out here as the trio of Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount return. Timo Werner (26%), Tammy Abraham (18%), and Olivier Giroud (9%) all trail Ziyech in the voting and are thus left out.

3-4-3 (88%)
Mendy (91%) | Rüdiger (89%), Christensen (73%), Azpilicueta (75%) | Alonso (50%), Jorginho (82%), Kanté (73%), Hudson-Odoi (61%) | Pulisic (81%), Havertz (70%), Mount (70%)

MY PREFERRED CHOICE

Never have I felt less enthusiastic about picking a preferred lineup, and I’m surely not alone in that regard. However, we all know that supporting Chelsea isn’t always easy so I simply went with the same eleven as that of the community. Call it solidarity; something we all so desperately need to cling onto right now as well.

Objectively speaking, we’d certainly want to rest a few players with future fixtures in mind if things were normal. But seeing that we might not be competing in any of the current competitions we so valiantly fought to succeed in by next week, we might as well go out all guns blazing.

3-4-3
Mendy | Rüdiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta | Alonso, Kanté, Jorginho, Hudson-Odoi | Pulisic, Havertz, Mount
